'Petey' as he was known to all, was something of a fixture in Brandon's bar on Saturdays and was rarely far from the chessboard. In recent years barely able to speak or walk, over the board he was transformed, and many were the hours that we played with him, battling to the last pawn. Now taken from us by a tragic accident in his home, we will all miss him dearly for his humour in adversity, his strength and determination and most of all the quality of his chess play. - Nick Larter
